The Rabbit Hole & a Newborn Tenant

There is the huge trunk of a tree about 12 feet from my back door. Usually there is a lot of activity in the back yard with a dog and kids around. Not what you would call a quiet spot to raise newborns. However, this is the second year in a row that rabbits have made a nest in the dirt/mulch area around this trunk. Continue reading

    The loss of consideration

There are times when people really piss me off. Not that I’m perfect, a model person, or anything like that, but one thing I pride myself on is that I try to see how my actions will affect others before I do things. I’m not into the “Political Correctness” crap, but I simply try to have basic consideration for people around me. Continue reading

American Bald Eagle receives artificial beak

She has been named Beauty, though this eagle is anything but. Part of Beauty’s beak was shot off several years ago, leaving her with a stump that is useless for hunting food. A team of volunteers is working to attach an artificial beak to the disfigured bird, in an effort to keep her alive. Continue reading

An economic downfall; how the price of gas, and me, will ruin the economy.

    moneyYes, you read that right.

The American economy is going to fall, spiral, and implode.
Industries will topple and go under.
    People will lose jobs.
    The stock market will crash.
    It’s inevitable.
And you can all blame me, and the price of gas.

My job, and pay, isn’t designed for the price of gas today. At $3.60+ a gallon, it just isn’t in my budget. As much as I try to do my part and reduce my driving, the price continues to rise. I’ve tried, to no avail. Therefore, because I cannot afford to… Continue reading

    This getting older thing sucks

Old AgeYou’re only as old as you feel.

I hate that freakin’ saying. I’m 43, and I feel, well, 43, if not older. I don’t feel 40, or 35. 30 is out of the question. 25 is barely a memory. I understand that the phrase is meant more as a mental thing, but shit, get real. Even if I wanted to act young again, my body would just say “Yeah, right, dumbass, what did you smoke for lunch?”

Most days my back hurts. I’m tired by 9 pm. Lately I wake… Continue reading

    The simplicity of dogs

Sleeping DogFor all of the modern things we enjoy, all of the technology we take part of, the advancement of media and entertainment and knowledge and the ways we enrich ourselves, I sometimes think that we have it all wrong.

It seems like we have this constant, never-ending drive to go farther, faster, higher, to have more, to do more, to be more, to see and find and experience more, to keep advancing in any direction we can imagine. To slow down is unthinkable, to stop is impossible. Ever onward… Continue reading

    Lucy

Lucy, my Springer SpanielI love dogs. Well, most dogs. Dogs that actually look and act like dogs, not the ones that look like dust-mops and sound like rats on steroids; in other words, “ankle biter”.

This one …. ok, she looks like a cow, walks like a duck, and eats like a pig. She has a brown line on her left upper and lower lips, looking like she has half of a mustache. Her tail is cropped and she sheds like crazy. I don’t think there is any form of food on… Continue reading

    Welcome, Peyton

Last night about 9:45 I started celebrating the birth of my second grandchild. “Peyton” was due in April, but apparently he wasn’t quite willing to wait much longer. Naturally I’ve been anxious for his arrival, but I guess I’ve also been wondering what type of world he will live in when he’s a teen, a young adult, even when he’s my age.

Today we live in an age of terrorism… Continue reading
