It used to be that Disney, and most things associated with it, were considered pretty good entertainment. Look at all of the classic movies they’ve created. The theme parks. The characters that are a permanent part of our culture. In other words, when Disney did something, it was top notch and pretty much everlasting.

When my granddaughter comes over she like to turn on the Disney Channel, or Disney kids channel, or whatever it is. I don’t so much watch it as hear it. And to be honest, what I hear I can’t stand. All of it sounds the same: teenagers, laugh tracks, stupid jokes, just pretty much mindless noise.

Is this the best that Disney has to offer? Are they just creating junk to reflect what our kids want, or is this really the best they have? Is this all they can market to be profitable? Does all of this “dumb down” our kids? Granted, I’m in my 40’s and none of this is meant to appeal to me, but come on; I think I have half an idea of the difference between good and garbage. And to me, this isn’t good.

And by the way, will someone make Hannah Montana just shut up already?

   With a 13 year old, some Disney shows are safely inane. The movies and music marketed to girls that age are so not welcome in our home. By contrast some of the Disney shows are mind numbing but like I said safe.
   Sad but true.

   As a person who’s been on this earth for 25 years, I can understand your view of the Disney channel. Most of it is garbage. Same thing with Nickelodeon. However when I think back ten years about the stuff I used to watch on those same channels, they weren’t much better.

   Your granddaughter will enjoy it now, eventually grow out of it, then look back at it wondering “why did I bother watching this garbage?” I happens. And like the commentor above me said, she could always be watching worse things.
